Jeff Riggs is the Founder of Essex, originally established as the servicing platform for what is now Essex Real Estate Capital Advisors (“ERECA”). In 2023, Jeff sold his majority interest in Essex to Patrick Dahnert, who now serves as the sole owner. Though no longer involved in daily operations, Jeff continues to be an active advisor and friend to Patrick and Essex, serving on the company’s Advisory Board.

Jeff’s career in commercial real estate spans more than four decades. A native of Iowa, he moved to Denver in 1978 with the vision of launching his own mortgage brokerage firm. Since then, he has built a distinguished career as a mortgage broker, lender, developer, operator, and equity owner. 

In addition to founding Essex and ERECA, Jeff is a founding partner of Baron Properties, a real estate investment and development firm, and has been involved in numerous ventures across the commercial real estate landscape. His early career began at Travelers Insurance Company and included leadership roles at Western Mortgage Loan Corporation, American Institutional Advisors, CalFed Mortgage Company, and First Interstate Real Estate Services.  Jeff is widely respected as a peer, mentor, and friend to executives throughout the commercial real estate and mortgage investment industries. Outside of work, he is a passionate golfer, outdoorsman, and traveler, and he most enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
