Prior to joining Essex Financial Services, Sonia was an independent insurance consultant to several commercial mortgage servicers and lenders, including Cohen Financial, Inland Mortgage Corporation, Slatt Capital, Walker & Dunlop, Situs Asset Management and Essex Financial Services.
Sonia began her career in the mortgage banking industry when she joined Cohen Financial in Chicago as their Insurance Risk Manager, overseeing insurance compliance for financed and owned assets, managing insurance review operations, and advising executive leadership on corporate insurance matters. Her professional foundation as a licensed property and casualty insurance broker includes extensive experience in commercial property and casualty insurance account management, agency operations, and client service across a diverse range of industries and property types.
Originally from the Yakima Valley in the State of Washington, Sonia currently resides in the Indiana Dunes, on the southern shore of Lake Michigan. Outside of professional and volunteer work, Sonia enjoys hiking in the Indiana Dunes National Park and along Lake Michigan, working (playing) in her garden, playing board games with friends and family, traveling with her husband of 26 years and visiting her three adult sons and their families.
